Can Cities Recover without Transportation?

On October 28th, 2020, Meeting of the Minds convened a free, live webinar featuring Melinda Hanson of Electric Avenue and Danny Harris of Transportation Alternatives.

Program

Can cities recover with our current transportation systems and priorities? What do recent transportation trends indicate for urban recovery? Certain cities are using this crisis to center residents, equity, safety and access and will be more successful in their survival as compared to other cities. How do we continue to safely move people to jobs and opportunities in this new era of transportation? What are those policy and planning tools that will make the difference between bouncing back and surviving versus a continued and prolonged crisis?

Danny Harris will share lesson from New York City and discuss how cities around the world must look past the personal automobile and reimagine their streets as a pathway for recovery, built around walking, biking, and public transit. Melinda Hanson will share how cities can best incorporate electric micro-mobility to create more sustainable, equitable, and resilient transportation networks. Melinda will also delve into emerging thinking around innovative approaches to structuring public-private partnerships, incentivizing micromobility use through infrastructure, and what’s really working in urban mobility policy in this new era.
