The mismatch between available parking spaces and drivers searching for a parking spot in cities is slowly closing with new developments in emerging technology and digital signage. These technologies hold the promise of decreasing congestion, lowering emissions and supporting thriving neighborhoods. The City of Chandler has more than 265,000 residents and continues to grow. Chandler’s smart city initiatives include a fiber master plan, cameras to detect cyclists, and parking in the downtown core. Team Chandler and Verizon are working together to digitize the city’s parking inventory using the latest edge-based computer vision technology. Once completed, the City of Chandler will know up-to-the-minute changes in parking availability across its urban core with the deployment of Verizon’s latest Parking Optimization technology, which is built upon Verizon’s 4g LTE network. The project also includes digital signage – all with the end goal of helping Chandler residents and visitors optimize parking in a growing city like Chandler.
