Meeting of the Minds Speaker
Chief Technology Officer
As Chief Technology Officer at the MBTA, David Block-Schachter attends lots of meetings.
The projects that sometimes result make the MBTA easier to use – from building fare payment systems that support all electronic proof of payment to speed up buses and allow payment with your phone or credit card, to real time information that reduces wait times for buses and trains, to rebuilding an outdated website on a responsive and accessible platform so that everyone has equal ability to access system information. And the open data and APIs that support all this and much more. If there is an end, it is that technology should be thought of as a platform to transform a hardware business to one that can move at the speed of software.
David was formerly the Chief Scientist and CTO at Bridj. He has a Bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and a Master of City Planning, a Master of Science in Transportation and a Ph.D from MIT. He is a regular rider of the 69 bus, and the Green and Red Lines, but he’d prefer to be walking.
